The Gemini Full Moon, Venus Retrograde, and the Wounded Healer

This week leads to the full moon in Gemini, Venus stationing retrograde, and the end of Chiron retrograde.

Wondering what this all means?

The relationship this full moon has with Jupiter and Neptune brings a theme of releasing false or limiting thought patterns. If you pay attention, you may start to recognize habitual thought patterns that limit you in some way. This can manifest as finally seeing the patterns of judgement or limiting beliefs you have about yourself, or perhaps you'll notice how your emotions come into play when you make assumptions about what others think of you.

The more you draw these thought patterns into consciousness, the more you can make use of Venus and Chiron changing directions. Venus retrograde begins with a Pluto conjunction, indicating that now is a time to courageously face the shadows, clearing the way for more beauty and love in the cycle to come. 

Likewise, Chiron is the healer of the zodiac, and as he turns direct, the possibility to integrate, grow, and transform is here, provided you look at what's leaving with the firm knowledge that your ultimate wellbeing is your divine birthright. 

Overall, this is a time of setting fear aside in order to see others and ourselves clearly. Offering compassion to your shadows can be a tricky business, but the outcome is always greater happiness, love, and inspiration.

To practice this pose:

1. Take a wide stance, turning your right toes out
2. Bend your right knee
3. Clasp your hands behind your back
4. Bow your torso between your legs, lifting your hands away from your hips
5. Stay and breathe
6. Repeat on the other side

Swirling Energies Leading into Solstice 2021

This week's energy is swirling with change. We're coming off of the solar eclipse last weekend, and now energies are shifting, leading up to solstice two weeks from now.

Eclipses have the tendency to rapidly shift circumstances, calling you into a new way of being. So, it may feel like you're operating from a different vantage now than you were last week. 

This week, the eclipse is integrating as Mars moves into Sagittarius, and Mercury moves into Capricorn. Additionally, Venus is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn as she prepares for her retrograde period (which you may already be feeling). 

Wondering what all this means for your life? 

Essentially, now is a time to think deeply and focus with your mind, while allowing your physical energy to move freely and joyfully through the world. 

Allow your mental focus to have definite aims (for example, have a purpose when you speak to people: are you catching up, communicating a request, asking a question?). 

During this time, the more clear you get through your mental focus, the more joy and understanding you'll experience in your daily actions. Experiment with thinking clearly while simultaneously allowing your actions to follow your unique, wayward path.

Ask yourself what it is you need in order to experience expansion and joy, and allow yourself to take actions simply for the pleasure of being alive and curious.

Practice Figure Four Pose (Eka Pada Utkatasana)

To practice this pose:

1. Ground the right foot evenly on the earth or floor
2. Lift the left leg and cross it over the right at the ankle, flexing your foot
3. Sit the hips back in space
4. Draw hands to heart center in anjali mudra
5. Pause, then practice bowing forward
6. Repeat on the other side

Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

This Friday-Saturday (depending on your time zone) is the total solar eclipse in Sagittarius. Eclipses are powerful portal moments of great power that allow for the birth of the unexpected.

This particular eclipse is especially powerful because it closes a cycle of eclipses in Sagittarius and Gemini, and because it's a total eclipse (meaning the sun will be completely obscured from some viewing locations).

This eclipse comes right after Neptune turns direct after five months of retrograde, and the eclipse itself has powerful aspects with several planets. 

Mercury, Neptune, Saturn, and Chiron all come into play, creating a complex moment when healing old wounds and patterns is deeply possible, if you're willing to face the facts of what happened, and set appropriate boundaries (both externally and in your mental emotional plane).

Whatever you've been shifting and working on in life these last 18 months is ready to see its final moments of change.

Old chapters are ready to end, and new ones are in the process of beginning.

Don't be afraid to align with what you truly want (your inner truth will tell you this, which is a bonus of Sagittarius-energy yoga practices!). You may not be able to see what's coming, but try to focus on the positive future, even as you acknowledge and release the painful aspects of the past.

Practice Supta Baddhakonasana (the Reclined Bound Angle Pose)

To practice this pose:

1. Lie on your back
2. Place the soles of your feet together and allow your knees to open wide (blocks or pillows are an option under the knees)
3. Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your low belly
4. Stay still for several minutes, watching your breath

Full Moon Eclipse in Taurus

Here comes the Taurus Full Moon Eclipse. This is the first of a series of eclipses along the Scorpio/Taurus axis. This eclipse is making a t-square, which is a paradoxical aspect, with Jupiter in Aquarius.

This means that the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter are all showing us ways to sustain ourselves in the worlds, but they're showing us through different modalities.

This full moon asks you to release your dedication to the solely manifest, tangible areas of life, in order to see the riches that exist in the mind and within the creative depths of your being.

When you do this, you'll be able to see possibilities and potential where you previously saw roadblocks and heartache. You'll be able to more consciously create your circumstances in your now moment in a way that acknowledges and uses your inner light.

Let your desire for what you truly want be your guide, and know that letting go of what does not fit into this moment in your life is clearing the path for what does.

1. Lie on your back
2. If you have lotus in your practice, set legs in lotus, otherwise extend legs long
3. Place your elbows on the floor
4. Arch your back so your heart lifts and your throat opens
5. Place the top of your head on the mat
6. If you legs are in lotus, grab your big toes with your pointer and middle fingers

The 2021 Scorpio New Moon Opposite Uranus

The new moon in Scorpio is coming up on Thursday.

This new moon is opposite retrograding Uranus in Taurus and brings some major potential to courageously step into your own power and truth.

The energy here points to the challenging truth that no matter what happens externally, and no matter what happens in the outer, earthly realm, you have a significant and infinite power within you that is at your disposal.

The power within you is the potency of your life-force energy, which is what is represented by Scorpio.

In this new moon, you have the power to take true stock of where you find yourself now, and to direct your energy toward your highest aim. When you do this, Uranus' presence has the potential to catapult you into higher levels of your own embodiment, so that the next 13 month cycle is significantly more empowering than the last.

The Aries Full Moon and Directing Your Energy

The full moon in Aries is here to offer you a chance to redefine your intention and your direction.

This full moon is opposite Mars in Libra. Mars rules the physical drive and directional force in life.

Mars in the zodiac reminds you that the manner and location in which you direct your life force matters. 

Mars rules two signs: Aries and Scorpio. This week has major energy from both, as this Aries full moon directly precedes the Sun moving into Scorpio.

These placements are here to offer you a chance to reflect, recommit, or redirect your energy.

Ask yourself if what you're seeking with your life force is also actively seeking you.

What needs to shift to take you toward head, heart, and body alignment? What needs to be taken up or released?

Let the answers to these questions guide you toward deeper self-integration throughout the end of these retrograde cycles, and you’re sure to see positive forward motion in the coming season.

1. Ground the right foot evenly on the earth or floor
2. Lift the left leg and cross it over the right (option to continue to wrap the ankle or leave it free)
3. Wrap the right arm over the left and place the palms together
4. Bend the right knee and descend the hips back in space
5. Pause, then practice bowing forward, drawing elbows toward knees
6. Repeat on the other side

The October 5 Fiery New Moon in Libra 2021

Wednesday, October 6 is the New Moon in Libra. 

This new moon brings in some major fresh energy, and has three notable boosts from (1) a harmonious formation with Mars, Saturn, and the Lunar North Node; (2) oppositional energy with Chiron in Aries; and (3) temporal alignment with the end of Pluto retrograde.

What this means is that this new moon can bring you the fire and perspectives needed to move fresh, healing energy into your life.

If you’ve had an old dynamic that was waiting to be resolved, now is the prefect time to do this. 

Allow yourself to take actions that align with how you truly want to relate, act, and be in this life. 

Remember that who you are today has grown in the last cycle, so allow old desires to fall away in favor of the desires that truly align in the perpetual now.

Practice Bending Tree Pose 


To practice this pose:

1. From standing, bend your right knee and place your right foot on your inner calf or inner thigh
2. Lift your arms overhead
3. Stay, or tilt your torso forward with a long spine
4. Stay, breathe, and balance
5. Repeat on the other side
 

Embrace the paradox of simultaneously hugging into your midline (sushumna nadi) and expanding forward, behind, up, down, and in all directions.

Can you live, breathe, and grow in a place of balance? Can you invite ease and expansiveness into your life through deep breaths in this posture?

Mercury Retrograde, October 2021

Welcome to Mercury Retrograde!

Mercury retrograde is a phenomenon that gets a lot of pop-culture attention these days, with people calling out the tendency for interruption in communication, technology, travel, and the social (and legal) spheres of life.

The reason communication and technology slow in this time is because Mercury’s energy has turned inward.

Mercury is the planet of communication, thought, and travel, and generally, these Mercurial themes move among people and places. When Mercury retrogrades, this energy is turned inward so that you can communicate within yourself.

Mercury retrograde is the perfect time to solve old issues, look within, and have a deep conversation with the various parts of your psyche.

This particular Mercury retrograde takes place in Libra and is favorably aspected, indicating that interpersonal issues can now be solved, provided you reconcile your position within yourself first.

Use this time to dive deep. Let your ideas percolate and resolve paradox within yourself first.

Practice Goddess Pose on Toes (Durgasana)

To practice this pose:

1. Take a wide stance with your toes and knees pointing in the same direction
2. Bend your knees to descend your hips
3. Draw your arms up in a cactus-shape
4. Lift your heels
5. Stay, breathe, and balance

Try practicing Lion's Breath with this position. To do this, inhale deeply and exhale as a roar out the mouth--tongue out; eyes looking to your middle brow; with a strong, audible roar.

Lion's breath fills out this pose by bringing out your inner Shakti--the feminine-encoded energy of yoga--in a way that encourages you to express yourself and connect with your deep inner knowing.

Full Moon Release and Equinox Energy

Yesterday was the full moon in Pisces, and tomorrow is the equinox and start of Libra season, so you may have felt some shifts in the air. 

The equinox marks a change in season, and the full moon marks a big release. This is a moment when physical and psychic toxins can be released in order to move into the next phase of the year with renewed energy.

If you find that your body needs more rest, give yourself that gift. If you find a sudden urge to activate your body, listen to that too. The sun entering Libra is all about realizing that the law of cause and effect (karma) is at play.

When you see the law of cause and effect at play clearly, you suddenly understand what you need to do in order to find the results you seek.

Take some time to see how altered actions might produce what you wish more easily. Sometimes the very action you need is counter intuitive to your current course, so remember to dig deep and look at the full spectrum of what is possible for you, from rest to activity in the body and mind.

Practice Warrior 3 (Virabhadrasana III)

To practice this pose:

1. Stand in tadasana (mountain pose) and shift your weight onto the right foot
2. Lift your left leg and tilt your torso forward in one long line
3. Draw hands overhead OR palms together in anjali mudra 
4. Optional: take the pose to balancing stick by bending over even further and lifting the leg more
5. Repeat on left foot
 

Create integrity in the pose by keeping a long spine, and lifting the ribcage slightly (so the core is engaged and the heart is supported from above and below). If this feels good, then begin to focus on the floating leg, lifting the inner thigh slightly so that the toes and knee point down.
